Is it just me?
Is it just me, or does this forum suddenly feel so "dead"?
The number of posts feels like it's dropping.....
It's like the number of people active in this forum is falling.
Idk... It's just my gut feeling...
What do you guys think?

Re: Is it just me?
Yea.. you got some sharp observation there, our few precious posters like Nicholar, Pixanie, El_Diavolo and etc seem to be missing lately...
Only few posters has been actively posting lately so the ratio post/poster is higher than the starting of this club unlike last time we have more poster with equal posting level...

Re: Is it just me?
Assignments are killing me, yeah. Two reports and an assignment due on Monday at 5 pm. I'm trying not to die on the side here...

Lol, learn to finish your work early that way you hav more time to play and things will not seem so pressuring. Time management... there seems to be a last minute culture in monash too, hope you guys get out of it. Otherwise you'll always be stressing!

Lol, its the culture. I am also affected by it, trust me it would be easier if everyone were finishing their work earlier too. Positive peer pressure!

That is so not true! There are loads of activities but no Monashians to go =\
Know why?
I sincerely believe it's coz everyone's... kiasu =X Of course there would be lots of assignments (it's university after all, what would you expect?) But Monashians place assignments > activities (which is really the right thing to do). There will be those who don't too but... they're usually those who prefer their own activities over uni activities.
Also, most Monashians won't know about what's going on. There were so many cool seminars, trips, gatherings, etc. that were going on but almost no one knew about it.
...
I just realized this but I don't know why I'm defending Monash o.o
Maybe it's because of all the events we plan in LEO club but having only a small number of people turning up...

I did too for the first two years of university =X
After that, I thought... "hey, my resume's going to look so empty!"
XD

Sad to say, no matter how early you start, it still takes forever. As people start finishing their work, you end up realising that you made a mistake here and there, and have to re-correct your things. And that doesn't take a trifle of time.

Our fund-raising was awesome, though.

Re: Is it just me?
I agree that not many people know about events on going in Monash... The only peeps who turned up for the events are people who knows people organising the event. Otherwise, there wont be anyone going.
Re: Is it just me?
Actually, it really depends on how you wanna prioritize your time. If you think activities are important then you would put clubs at a high priority however we have been brought up in a society which emphasizes on A's and results, most of the clubs in our secondary schools are inactive/failures(at least in my school it was).
Anyhow it really depends on the individual, as for me the reason i am not very active at the moment because i am seriously considering to transfer to aus and they hav increased the average to 70 this sem. I am just afraid i may not make the mark if i slack in my studies and monash sunway is kinda of just a stepping stone. Thats why i haven't contributed much in the running or participating in the club activities.

Re: Is it just me?
I do not dare to turn mysrlf into the club activity for the most of the time... For me to go to the japanese club already quite streesful for friday report.... Sigh.........
I wonder is it me being slow in work or the monash really give a hell lot of work in a short period (4 months...) or other university got more freetime???
By the way, mchenix, what anime is it? (your avatar) Seems quite nice...

Re: Is it just me?
I'm not sure about other universities but monash has lots of assignments workload. Even for business students like me, we have an average of 2 assignments per subject. Some subject has more but the usual is 2. As for the other courses I think they have more cos of lab reports and stuff on top of the usual assignment. As I know, arts(communication) have heavy weightage on their assignments so they have to really focus on doing them.

Tales of the Abyss, I think. Not sure about the title, pretty sure that she's from one of the Tales RPGs.
because i am seriously considering to transfer to aus and they hav increased the average to 70 this sem.
Seriously? Are students planning to go on exchange affected as well?

That is true... on average, our workload for a subject is a combination of two to four of the following: -
8 lab reports (one a week)
2 essay assignments (one a month, or one every 5 weeks; sometimes 3 so that it's one every 3 weeks)
2 mid-sem tests (of course, some is only 1 mid-sem test but I have one subject with 3) x.x
1 oral presentation
1 poster presentation
weekly quizzes (this was only for one physiology subject though)
All of them counted towards our final course marks x.x
When we brought it up with the lecturers during a reps meeting, they said they've already halved it from what was done previously... I really can't imagine how the workload was like before this x.x

Erm, yes exchange students are affected as well if i am not wrong, thus going on exchange in your 3rd years gonna be hard since the year 2 and 3 units are far more difficult and 70 average is pretty tough for business course, i am a good student and i just barely made it last semester.

Re: Is it just me?
Very true. Even though I'm just taking 1 comm subject this sem, the 2000 word essay and 40% weightage (not to mention confusing essay question) is quite killing. Other friends in arts have mentioned that they have 25% and 50% assignments all due around now as well.EmikoKidd wrote:As I know, arts(communication) have heavy weightage on their assignments so they have to really focus on doing them.
I think Monashians in general are more kiasu because of peer pressure. Students feel like they have to work as hard as their other friends so as to not fall behind in grades and 'hard-workingness'. Monash kinda places quite high expectations on students as well.
