Re: Suggestions for events
Nothing wrong with planning for the future, is there?
Though I'd suggest that if you were to do a huge event, it's best to veer off the beaten "anime convention" path and do something less...conventional, for the lack of a better word. Why not a manga/doujinshi/comics con? Since Comic Fiesta is only at the end of the year, we could be holding one in the middle of the year. It just takes some hard work...

Re: Suggestions for events
Hey, i think the cosplay event should add more events to it...
it should not be just simply a cosplay...
where it should have a contest of some sort like this...
rather than the committee member go spot those who cosplay...
the contestant should join a event...
some sort like a sketch...or anything like that...
as long as they performing something...
i think that will attract a whole big crowd...
and the committee member must cosplay also..HAHA

well in that case we'll nid every single member to participate cause it's not easy to organize n advertise n set up. i tink we'll even nid to look for sponsors haha

That's a given. Advertising can be done via word of mouth (most college/university-based events are advertised on the main Malaysian boards such as Lowyat and Comic Fiesta)- but of of course, it's best to actually have a site to refer to. If not, a thread at a (popular) message board is good.
Sponsors....it really depends. C2AGE (HELP) was run on a zero budget, but they were given the venues in the university college free of charge. Will we be charged to use the long corridor that winds around the library (assuming that it's the best location on campus)?
It's not impossible....just a bit difficult.

Re: Suggestions for events
We could have a blog to refer people to for more information on the event.
it'll be a little stuffy at the corridor in the afternoon (assuming there will be some booths and decent attendance rate) but it's certainly one of the most accessible spots on campus.
Would be challenging to organize and have an event of that scale by this semester though.

Re: Suggestions for events
I've noticed that the university tends to set up those fan-coolers on the columns when there are events going on in the corridor area, so perhaps that could be a way to cool down the place. I'm under the impression that that area is among the coolest (open area) in the university, though.
Why not aim for next year? Since Comic Fiesta is at the end of this year, to make sure that we have a decent attendance rate and sufficient interest gathered, it's best not to clash. And well, there's the problem of having to negotiate with the university authorities too, yes.

Re: Suggestions for events
Yeah, agree that it's one of the coolest open areas in the uni and one of the only appropriate ones for larger scale events. Never organize something at the uni car park unless it's in the evening/night.
Kaishou, let's have a food related event/gathering for this sem ~Food + fostering better ties among members = better brainstorming and more ideas for the club's first con =P

Re: Suggestions for events
An anime convention is a nice idea. But you'll need to come up with other events and not just cosplay. Maybe we can have some anime trivia competition? We can also play anime songs and ask the crowd to guess. And some performances would be nice.

That's all part and parcel of an event, actually. If one were to focus too much on one aspect (namely the cosplay), no one would come.
I still maintain my stand that there are way too many cosplay events and a comic/doujin-centric event is much better. If anything, we stand out from the crowd.

But where are we gonna get the drummers? I don't think anyone in Monash knows how to play those traditional sort of drums. Unless I might be mistaken...
